This volume covers the synthesis of five-membered heterocyclic compounds with eitheran oxygen-, sulfur-, nitrogen-, selenium-, tellurium-, or phosphorus-containing heterocyclefused to one or two benzenoid rings. Many compounds covered in this volume have considerable importance, both commerciallyand from an environmental point of view. Understandably, the longest chapter isdevoted to the synthesis of indoles.
