Searching

Search Interface
To make structure searching as quick and as easy as possible, the user has a choice of three popular structure drawing tools: ISIS Draw, Java Applet, and ChemDraw, plus the ability to upload Molfiles from a local disk.

In addition to the Full Text search field, fast access to the information contained within Science of Synthesis can now also be achieved using a variety of other search functions. In combination with a Structure, Substructure, or Reaction Query, the user can refine his/her search with a CAS registry number, a catalyst, a solvent, a reaction temperature, or a reaction yield.

Should the user be looking for Bibilographic information, then a separate drop down menu allows the user to access information on Authors, Book/Journal Title, and Publication Year. Bibliographic information solely related to Science of Synthesis can be accessed by selecting the Volume Number, Section Number, or Page Number fields.

Table of Contents
Users may browse through the product using the newly styled, hierarchical table of contents in the left hand frame.

Table of Contents

Hitlist
Hits are listed as single step reactions in the form of a sequential list. In the list, up to 50 hits are displayed. To view a hit document, simply click on the single step reaction or on the citation below it.

Hit List

Navigation
The Query form, Hitlist, and Full Text windows can be viewed in paralel for ease of use and quick cross-checking of search results and hit documents.

The new frame tiling buttons allow the user to view both the table of contents and the full text side-by-side, or to view either frames in full screen for comfortable reading.

Browsing
In addition to being able to browse Science of Synthesis via:

  • An interactive table of contents
  • Volume Information pages
  • Book mode option
further exploration is facilitated by the Browse buttons   Previous Document  Next Document , which download successive documents as if the user were leafing through a book.

Linking
Extensive cross-linking allows smooth navigation between Science of Synthesis and related content in the Houben–Weyl archive. In addition, links from each citation enable fast access to the original research literature. Crossovers to databases and electronic journals are also fully supported, providing a channel to further relevant information about target compounds.

Printing
For convenience in the lab, Science of Synthesis offers high quality printing. Users can choose to print individual documents containing high resolution graphics using the print command in the document frame. Alternatively, printing of multiple documents is also possible with a single mouse click directly from the table of contents using the print command button.
