Text Searching

Pharmaceutical Substances is completely text searchable and allows you to use a variety of logic arguments to refine your text searches. The example below talks you through the procedure for searching using the Fulltext function.

Search Interface

In the Advanced Search interface simply select Fulltext in the drop down menu and enter the text you wish to search for in the dialog box to the right. In order to expand the number of possible hits please use wildcards. In this example the search term is *indol*. Click on the Search button to submit your search.
Range of Results

If the text used appears in a large number of entries, here 102, you can narrow the search using the logic functions and, or, not and near.
Refining Search

Up to three search queries can be entered for any one search. Here we added and *carboxylic acid* as well as and antidepressant to narrow down the search with a given substrate and a therapeutic use of the target compounds.
Final Hit Set Using the combined search allows you to refine the query to a point where you obtain only a handful of hits meeting your problem specifications. In this example, 3 substances meeting the given requests are retrieved. In the hit documents terms matching the search query are highlighted in yellow.
