Spectroscopic Methods in Organic Chemistry

Editors: M. Hesse (Zürich, Switzerland)
H. Meier (Mainz, Germany)
B. Zeeh (Ludwigshafen, Germany)

Spectroscopic Methods in Organic Chemistry covers all aspects of modern spectroscopic methodology. It provides the basis for the application of spectroscopic methods in organic chemistry, which are important in every university’s program.

By means of practical examples, theory and practice of the following methods are explained and discussed:

  • UV/Vis spectroscopy, derivative spectroscopy, chiroptical methods (CD and ORD).
  • Infrared (IR) and Raman spectroscopy, Fourier-Transform- IR spectroscopy, as well as the GC/IR combination.
  • Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy (NMR) as 1H-, 13C-, 19F-, 15N-, and 31P-NMR, spin uncoupling, triple resonance, INDOR, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional NMR, COSY, TOCSY, ROESY, and NOESY spectra, NOE, INEPT and DEPT techniques, DEPTQ, HECTOR, INADEQUATE, and lanthanide shift, simulation, and calculation of spectra.
  • Mass spectroscopy (MS), electron and chemical ionisation (EI and CI), fast-atom bombardment (FAB), GC/MS and LC/MS combination, MS/MS technique, electronspray and thermospray ionisation (ESI and TSI), atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation (APCI), MALDI-TOF measurements, field desorption (FD), and HPLC-UV(DAD)- APCI-MS/MS combination.
  • Furthermore its multicolored layout and tabular presentation facilitate learning.
