Marketing Director, Thomas Krimmer
February 2007: I have been working for Thieme Chemistry for the past six years and currently hold the position of Marketing Director.
I studied my doctorate in bio-chemistry and since then have been working with Thieme. In 2006, I finished an executive MBA at Edinburgh Business School. I opted for the position as Marketing Manager at Thieme in 2001 because I felt it gave me an
opportunity to expand my current skill set and allowed me to diversify. Also, the possibility of working in an all English speaking environment
as a non-native speaker was a challenge.
Today I am (with a team of 3 direct reports and 3 associated staff) responsible for all marketing and business development activities worldwide (US, Europe, Asia) in the chemistry department, including over seeing the production of our websites, printing
of material, and representing our company at conferences all over the world. On the strategic side, it's up to me to set long term strategies,
discuss usability and features of existing, and new, products as well as keeping contact to our customers and external contributors, such as editors,
authors and cooperating partners. On the sales side, I do customer visits, road shows, and product trainings, and I am involved in negotiations with distribution partners, pricing models, consortia. Finally, I am the project manager for our print and online chemistry monographs.
My job thus holds a great deal of variety and responsibility.
The thing that I find most challenging and interesting about my job is being provided with the opportunity to influence the products and the groups
performance to a greater degree than one person probably could in a large company. Basically I am involved in all phases of a products implementation.
