Wild Cards
Wild Cards may be used anywhere within a searched term as a character substitution, or at the beginning or end to truncate the term. Wild cards may be used for both Quick Searches and Advanced Searches.
- The asterisk * represents any number of characters, including zero.
- The question mark ? represents only one optional character, and therefore will produce hits for the core term and the core term plus one character.
The exclamation mark ! represents one character.
How do I use a Wild Card?
- Simply type the search query into the desired Search Query Field and then add either an asterisk or an exclamation mark on to the end of the query term, as required.
If unsure of the spelling of a query term replace any questionable characters with a question mark. - Begin the search and retrieve the hits by clicking on the Search Button.
